What is Communion by Extension and how does it differ from Holy Communion Free Essay Example, 1250 words

The elements in use within the communion by extension are consecrated earlier within a church and administration of the same brings together various groups over a common cause like illnesses. The bishop holds absolute power to nominate a person who would preside over the communion by extension and as such, no one person would claim the responsibility of presiding over the service (Dallen, 1994, p. 1-59). These differences point out that communion by extension is by itself very distinct as against the common ‘holy communion’ and does not in itself override the essence of holy c communion as have been observed previously. Holy Communion is presided over by the priest but under such exceptions and through written permission, another person from the congregation is allowed to preside over and hence regarded as provisional or exceptional. Particular vesture must be won while administering the communion by extension with a special training being accorded to the person to preside over the service as authorized by the Bishop. Besides, the right to conduct the communion by extension is periodic and this explains why the Bishop keeps revisiting the rights accorded to the person overseeing the communion by extension. We will write a custom essay sample on What is Communion by Extension and how does it differ from Holy Communion or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now This paper also notes that granting of the permission to preside over the communion by the Bishop is done sparingly hence specific reasons is involved before permission is granted. Such reasons as would often lead to according of the right to observe the rites are emergencies like sicknesses and specific congregational needs that warrant specialized pastoral care. Besides, the consecrated elements are highly regarded and great care is accorded to the elements as they are transferred from the church where Holy Communion where the Holy Communion takes place. The general criteria in use in dictating such persons as would partake the communion by extension is that the person(s) must be from a church which equally believes in the holy trinity doctrine. It is also however worth noting that prior preparation for the individuals and congregations at large are required before sharing in the communion by extension (Tovey, 2001, p. 1-33). The history in the id eology of having communion by extension emanated from having many people deprived of the opportunity and right to share in holy communion in the normal church set-up especially through early church persecution. In fact, the communion by extension practice is a rather new phenomenon in the history of Christian faith with a critical difference identified between the communion and the Eucharist’ (or the common holy communion).

Much ado about nothing presentation of women in the play Free Essays

string(245) " when she finds out Benedicts love and possibly explains why their exchange at the masked ball was so fiery and aggressive, to cover \(as a mask does\) up their underlying love and wish to be married like society \(Leona and Antonio\) suggests\." In the play the way the characters Interact with each other Is somewhat dependent on class, however largely dependent on gender. A general theme in the play is that the male characters often see the women as deceivers â€Å"trust none† and almost expect them to cheat, resulting in many a Joke based on becoming a cuckold. The plot, women being slandered by mischief-makers whose lover or husband is led to believe she has been unfaithful to him can give us an idea of Shakespearean view (someone who lived In a society where women were submissive to men) as he uses a similar plot again in three more plays including Othello. We will write a custom essay sample on Much ado about nothing presentation of women in the play or any similar topic only for you Order Now In Shakespearean comedy there is always confusion, in this case with many mistakes, but ends with it being put back together again (at a wedding) reinforcing that a stereotypical man should have a woman at his side. When looking at the presentation of women in the play, the two significant female characters: Beatrice and Hero, appear to be on the opposite side of the stereotypical spectrum. Beatrice, possibly the most intriguing character in the whole play, speaks and behaves with more than usual freedom. She Is unique as she not only possess a brain, but delights in the use of it, presenting a challenge to all the ale characters. She behaves far from the typical Elizabethan woman emphasized in ACTA scenes where in response to Elongates wish for Beatrice to get married she proclaims she will not be fitted with a husband â€Å"till god make men of some other mettle than earth. † In complete contrast, Hero does not take Beatrice advice to wait and â€Å"let him be a handsome fellow,† she Is completely submissive to her father and doesn’t even get to respond In the play. As the reader can see, marriage Is a central part of the play and the way the character’s approach marriage can give us a real insight into the presentation of women. I have already mentioned Beatrice talks about being â€Å"fitted† with a husband, this is a notion which suggests that in the play marriage was seen as the woman giving herself to the man. When Beatrice professes her love for Benedict he says that he will â€Å"stop her mouth† with a kiss, showing a man expects to almost â€Å"tame† a woman and she Is expected to be submissive to him. The idea of a woman being completely submissive to their husband Is presented when Hero and Ursula describe Beatrice â€Å"wild spirits† to be â€Å"caught† for Benedict. This suggests that she is now at Benedicts disposal and has almost become his pet. Despite Beatrice reversal in her views on marriage, she had to be tamed to conform to society. Hero however, who is depicted as the model women in the play, is quite happy to marry Claudio despite being â€Å"wooed† by Don Pedro. This presents the socially accepted women as people who are almost thankful to be noticed by men and are quite happy to agree to any proposal they might have. The contrast between Hero and Beatrice highlights the effect of a dominant male in Elizabethan society. Hero has to conform to her father who insists she get married. However, Beatrice does not have a father present in Messing at the time and therefore is not under pressure to marry a man leaving it up to her own discretion. This highlights how women are presented as the object which fathers use to Increase the social standing fact all men that see women as objects. Claudio uses the metaphor â€Å"rotten orange† to describe Hero. In today’s society one would expect the orange would represent her beauty on the outside and the sweetness of her character on the inside. However, as she was described as rotten, the inside of the orange for Claudio represented Hero’s chastity. This suggests that the most important thing for a man was a woman’s beauty and chastity not her character, reinforcing the presentation of women as objects. As does the fact that Don Pedro â€Å"wooed† Hero and then after winning Hero over passed her over to Claudio as if it did not matter that she has been tricked. Women as deceivers— Margaret Links to not having a father Links to cuckolding , perhaps showing us how it was an accepted thing for women to be almost controlled by their father and even for them to dictate to whom a women would get married to (as if the father uses their daughter of a way of increasing the social tanning of their family name). This is slightly ironic as later in the play Beatrice herself is said to be â€Å"caught† for Benedict by Hero and Ursula after they compared her spirit to a â€Å"haggard of the rock† and she decides to bind their love in a â€Å"holy band,† both the catching of an animal and a band suggests that the marriage may be restrictive and she will be â€Å"tamed† and domesticated by Benedict as Hero is by her father. Beatrice reversal stems from over hearing a conversation where she finds out that her wit seems not to be appreciated â€Å"mock me into air. † She is forced to liaise that it is not the way other women think she should behave and it doesn’t gain her popularity â€Å"no glory lives behind the back of such† for behaving in this manner. The tone â€Å"taming my wild heart† in which she speaks in what may be called her speech of reversal suggests that she understands this is the right way for a women to live her life and the very fact that she is thinking about marriage â€Å"holy band† even before it is confirmed that Benedict is actually in love with her suggests that for women in the play/at that time it was their ultimate goal to get married and all the dottiness about remaining a bachelor was a mask to cover up their true feelings hence the relief she feels when she finds out Benedicts love and possibly explains why their exchange at the masked ball was so fiery and aggressive, to cover (as a mask does) up their underlying love and wish to be married like society (Leona and Antonio) suggests. You read "Much ado about nothing presentation of women in the play" in category "Papers" Despite previously saying that one could burn him at the â€Å"stake† and his views would remain, Benedict quickl y changes heart to, â€Å"the world must be peopled. However, Benedicts speech is written in prose and is very matter of fact â€Å"l will be horribly in love with her. Unlike Beatrice where it is more romantic, showing how women are presented to be slightly softer romantics but it is the men â€Å"if I do not take pity on her I am a villain† who are expected to take in the woman. Throughout the play we also get a sense that the men see the women as deceivers â€Å"l will not do them the wrong to mistrust any, I will do myself the right to trust none† and almost expect them to cheat, shown by the fact that instead of a cuckold being a suggesting that it is somewhat a certainty that a wife will be unfaithful. When the bastard Don John, who is a self-professed â€Å"plain-dealing villain† slanders Hero, they re very quick to come up with the plan to disgrace her in front of the whole congregation, not try and speak with her and find out whether the allegations even have substance. The fact that Don Pedro and even Claudio (who was going to marry Hero) almost immediately believes in Don John (someone who admitted â€Å"you may think I love you not†) and even starts planning his revenge (possibly showing how the most important factor for a man was a woman’s chastity due to the extreme nature of his revenge) on Hero shows that although it was a surprise it wasn’t something which shocked the men and by agreeing to go to the window in the evening gives us he impression that they are expecting the evening to confirm what they have Just been told. The fact that the Claudio is so quick to entertain the idea that Hero has been unfaithful (foreshadowed in the party scene,) and men are so worried about becoming a cuckold could stem from marriages not possibly meaning as much in comparison to what they mean today. After all, it was Don Pedro that actually â€Å"wooed† Hero. This links to the fact that although the men often see the women as deceivers, the women (in this case Hero) seem to have to put up with the fact that Hero was manipulated by two men. Although, Hero seemed to be happy about the whole thing (or had to be under the influence of her father) again further suggesting that it was a women’s goal to get married and it didn’t particularly matter who it was to, Don Pedro or indeed Claudio. This suggests that it was somewhat a career option for a women hence why they may appear to become domesticated and this could also link to why men are so worried about being cuckolded because the pair decided to get married quickly â€Å"marry her tonight† without actually knowing each other really well. Claudio describes Hero as â€Å"a Jewel,† something which looks wonderful and is radar to find, by using a metaphor and describing her in this why suggests that Claudio may see Hero as an object to admire and possess, rather than someone to love. The fact that when he is denouncing her at the wedding he describes her as a â€Å"rotten orange,† you may think that an orange would be used to describe her beauty on the outside and her sweetness on the inside although actually the inside refers to her chastity once again showing us that looks and chastity are, in the eyes of men, more important than personality. Although, in response to how quick Claudio lives in the allegations, another interpretation may be that Shakespeare made his characters worried about others â€Å"the prince woes for himself† deceiving or betraying them no matter what gender and are Just generally susceptible to being caught out by a mischief maker shown when Don John manages to convince Claudio that he has heard Don Pedro â€Å"swear his affection† for Hero, this is a method Shakespeare used for comedic purposes. During the play it becomes apparent that a man places a great deal of importance on a woman’s Chastity. Leona berates â€Å"do not pop thin eyes† Hero to the very point where he wishes her dead and wishes that she as not from his blood so he could say â€Å"no part of it is mine. † The metaphor where he says she has fallen into a â€Å"pit of ink† and there isn’t enough drops of water in the sea to clean her emphasis that it is the highest of almost all offen ces. However, when the full story transpired and it became clear that it was in fact Margaret who and therefore different rules were applied for a different class of woman, suggesting that Chastity was a must in an upper class woman yet for men and woman of the lower classes it was more acceptable to entertain someone before marriage if they even get married at all. Although, the fact that Broacher, the very person that deceived the princes is the person that proves Margaret was not aware of the plot shows that even a lowly male servant, who has committed a terrible crime still has the status in society to prove that Margaret was innocent. In the play it is not even mentioned that Margaret is at the wedding. As she does not speak up, it is either clear that she was not present or simply she would not be believed due to her gender and social standing. However, in Kenneth Branch film Margaret was present and the actor interpreted her face to look horrified, perhaps for Hero but also maybe suggesting that even a woman of lower class would find it horrific for her actions to come out in front of all the people present. Conclusion – modern interpretation better but still gender gap. Coalescence OF MARGE-RAT AND URSULA?class Leona- dogberry CONCLUSION– One of the most interesting ideas in the play is that the traditional couple are perhaps not really in love, but the odd couple are. –Beatrice most horrible line in play I. E market place The fact that a woman says it may show that actually woman are not much different to men who go off and fight a war it is Just society that stops them from doing it How to cite Much ado about nothing presentation of women in the play, Papers

Sins of the Father essays

Sins of the Father essays This film is based on the true story of a relationship between Tom Cherry and his father Bobby Frank Cherry, who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Bobby Cherry was charged for being apart in one of the most biggest crimes in US history. This horrible tragedy happened in1963, the bombing of the Baptist Church in Birmingham that killed four young girls: Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley. This film impressively recreated this event and put you in the perspective of some of the people who lived through this. It was filled with a lot of flashbacks from Toms perspective as well showing some of the things that people had to deal with at that time. The most impressive thing on the film was how at first you dont really know what is going on and why, but once you see all the flashbacks Tom thinks about you piece it all The character that impressed me most was Tom Cherry. Tom grew up living with his family and trying to make his father proud. When Tom had to do something bad in order to gain his fathers approval, you would see him hesitate at first knowing what hes is bad but still does it anyway. Such a situation happened when Tom, his brother Bobby jr. and their father were walking down a street and bump into a black man. The black man recognized that the father was from the KKK and started a fight with the father. The father took this metal rod that the black man was holding and whacked him on the head. How to Use Pickle to Save Objects in Python

How to Use Pickle to Save Objects in Python Pickle, which is part of the Python library by default, is an important module whenever you need persistence between user sessions. As a module, pickle provides for the saving of Python objects between processes. Whether you  are programming for a database, game, forum, or some other application that must save information between sessions, pickle is useful for saving identifiers and settings. The pickle module can store things such as data types such as booleans, strings, and byte arrays, lists, dictionaries, functions, and more. Note:  The concept of pickling is also known as serialization, marshaling, and  flattening. However, the point is always the same- to save an object to a file for later retrieval. Pickling accomplishes this by writing the object as one long stream of bytes.   Pickle Example Code in Python To write an object to a file, you  use a code in the following syntax: import pickle object Object() filehandler open(filename, w) pickle.dump(object, filehandler) Heres how a real-world example  looks: import pickle import math object_pi math.pi file_pi open(filename_pi.obj, w) pickle.dump(object_pi, file_pi) This snippet writes the contents of object_pi to the file handler file_pi, which in turn is bound to the file filename_pi.obj in the directory of execution. To restore the value of the object to memory, load the object from the file. Assuming that pickle has not yet been imported for use, start by importing it: import pickle filehandler open(filename, r) object pickle.load(filehandler) The following code restores the value of pi: import pickle file_pi2 open(filename_pi.obj, r) object_pi2 pickle.load(file_pi2) The object is then ready for use once again, this time as object_pi2. You can, of course, reuse the original names, if you prefer. This example uses distinct names for clarity. Things to Remember About Pickle Keep these things in mind when using the pickle module: The pickle protocol is specific to Python – its not guaranteed to be cross-language compatible. You most likely cannot transfer the information to make it useful in Perl, PHP, Java, or other languages. There is also no guarantee of compatibility between different versions of Python. IThe incompatibility exists because not every Python data structure can be serialized by the module.By default, the latest version of the pickle protocol is used. It remains that way unless you manually change it. Tip:  Also find out  how to use shelve to save objects in Python  for another method of maintaining object continuity.

If we will allow abortion for an earlier stage, then people will take advantage of this relaxation and will try to abort to baby even at a more mature stage which is called as fetus. So the main point of writing this paper is to argue that abortion should remain a crime except for a few genuine reasons. The term ‘abortion’ refers to those acts that are aimed at ending pregnancy. It also refers to forcing out the fetus or embryo form the womb of mother before it could be able to survive on its own: before complete child development that takes about 9 months in total after conception. If this happens accidentally, it is referred as ‘miscarriage’. In this paper we are going to present some common ethical dilemmas against abortion. Then later we will analyze those dilemmas. Giving birth to children is an important part of personal as well as social life. Nevertheless, there are people who decide to have an abortion due to various reasons (Graber, M. 1996). We are also going to discuss the methods that are generally used to abort a baby at different stages of the child development. We then have a look at historical and legislation frontiers. We will also discuss this issue in the light of normative ethics. The reason behind an abortion varies from society to society and culture to culture. Some societies hate girls and abort if the gender test shows that they are going to have a baby girl. On the other hand, many parents or partners change their minds to have a baby and abort the baby. In cases of rapes, rape victims are used to abort the baby because this act is wrong altogether. One child policy that prevails in China is also one of the reasons behind abortions. In some poor countries,

Explain how the relationship between the dose of drug given to an Essay

Explain how the relationship between the dose of drug given to an individual and the concentration of drug molecules - Essay Example These factors are discussed in more detail below, based on the description of Goodman, et al. (2011, ch. 2). The characteristics of the drug molecule itself that affect the drug’s concentration at the receptor site include its molecular size, degree of ionization, lipid solubility, and its affinity for serum and tissue proteins. The plasma membrane (of skin or intestinal cells, for example) is a common barrier to drug distribution; drugs that are not lipid soluble will not be able to permeate the membrane and not reach the target site. A drug of small molecular size will travel more easily through the membranes than a larger molecule, reaching the target in higher concentrations. Ionized molecules, and those that bind to proteins, also have difficulties in passing through the membrane. If the drug has a tendency to ionize at the pH of the intestinal lumen or the blood, the ionized form will have difficulty passing through lipid plasma membranes. If the drug interacts with tran sporter proteins on the cell membrane, its uptake into the cell may be increased or decreased, depending on the direction in which the transporter moves the drug. For example, the P-glycoprotein in enterocytes limits the oral absorption of some cancer chemotherapeutic agents by exporting them back into the lumen of the GI tract. Similarly, it has been found that multidrug transporters such as P-glycoprotein (PGP) and members of the multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP) family are over-expressed in capillary endothelial cells in epileptogenic brain tissue, and, by transporting anti-epileptic drugs out, these proteins may be responsible for the pharmacoresistance of the epileptic brain to anti-epileptic drugs (LÃ ¶scher and Potschka, 2002). ... transporters such as P-glycoprotein (PGP) and members of the multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP) family are over-expressed in capillary endothelial cells in epileptogenic brain tissue, and, by transporting anti-epileptic drugs out, these proteins may be responsible for the pharmacoresistance of the epileptic brain to anti-epileptic drugs (Loscher and Potschka, 2002). If a drug is capable of binding to plasma proteins such as albumin, then some of the drug molecules in the bloodstream bind to the proteins, while the remaining unbound drug molecules are available to reach equilibrium across all membranes and reach the target receptor. Thus, plasma protein binding limits the concentration of the drug at its site of action. When the site of action of concern is the brain, the capability of the drug to cross the blood-brain barrier determines the concentration of administered drug that can reach the target. The more lipophilic the drug in its unbound, non-ionized form, the great er will be its ability to pass through the endothelial cells forming the blood-brain barrier, and thus the higher will be its bioavailability in the brain. How the route of administration affects the fraction of the drug dose that reaches the target is also important. The most common route of administration is oral, however, this route has several implications on bioavailability, and the dose swallowed will not entirely reach the target site. Only a fraction of the ingested drug is absorbed from the intestine, depending on the factors discussed in the previous paragraph. As more absorption takes place in the intestine than the stomach, any factor that increases stomach emptying (such as such as lying down on the right side and level of physical activity) increases drug absorption as the

An Analysisi of Guy de Maupassants the Necklace Essay -- essays rese

Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace" During the course of Guy de Maupassant's short story "The Necklace," the main character, Matilda Loisel, makes a number of ironic discoveries. In addition, there are other discoveries that the reader makes but Matilda does not. The discovery that forms the story's climax concerns the true nature of the necklace she has borrowed from her friend Mrs. Forestier. But this is perhaps not the most important lesson of this story. As the story opens, Matilda, a young middle-class wife who aspires to join the upper ranks of society, is finally invited to a high-society affair given by her husband's employer. Hoping to impress her guests and thus "fit in", she borrows a beautiful diamond necklace from her friend Madame Forestier. Unfortunately, during the course of the evening, the necklace is lost. Rather than confront her friend directly with the story of her carelessness, she and her husband scrape together every bit of money they can. As de Maupassant explains, "[Mr.] Loisel possessed eighteen thousand franks which his father had left him. He borrowed the rest. He borrowed it, asking for a thousand francs of one, five hundred of another, five louis of this one, and three louis of that one. He gave notes, made ruinous promises, took money of usurers and the whole race of lenders. He compromised his whole existence, in fact, risked his signature without even knowing whether he could make it good or not, and, ha...

The Impact Listening Skills to Self-Disclosure In A Marital and Romantic Relationship

Relationships are strengthened by good communication. There are many aspects of communication that ultimately affect the quality of one’s relationships. It is of interest that we discover the impact of a certain communication skill on relationships. This essay also deals with the effect of listening skills on the quality of marital and mature man-woman relationships. Having all other factors constant this essay deals only with the effect of listening skills on the relationship quality of the individuals in a marital and romantic relationship. The settings for each relationship is unique therefore the degree of communication skill needed for the relationship varies. Before going into the details, we must first define the factors involved in the relationships mentioned. These factors are: the listening skills of the individuals involved in a marital and romantic relationship. As Pickering (1981) notes, listening skills are of the most important communication skills needed, to hav e a good relationship. Next is the relationship quality which is defined as the value or worth of the relationship (Mie, 2005).Lastly, relationship, a term that widens in scope as people wander to different aspects of interpersonal relationships, is taken into consideration (Zuroff & Neil, 1999). The researcher chose to focus on two similar relationship settings, which are the marital and mature man-woman romantic relationship. Hence, this essay focuses on the evidences that prove the positive impact of good listening skills on the practice of self-disclosure of the individuals in a marital and romantic relationship. Impact 3 Listening Skills Studies show that the impact of communication, specifically listening skills in relationships is immense. One must chose the right communication tool to improve ones relationships. Studies show that people who influence us are those who are active listeners (Pickering 1981). A study was done comparing the difference between couples who undergo c ommunication program and those who didn’t. Results showed that those who undergo the communication program to enhance their communication skills have a higher tendency of success in their relationships in the long run compared to those who did not undergo the program (Yalcin & Karahan, 2007).One of the most important aspects of communication is the listening skills. According to White (2006), good communicators are emphatic listeners who apply effective listening in relationships. Individuals in the relationships should be good communicators. There is a difference between hearing and listening. Hearing only deals with the physical processes as one hears sounds from the environment, while listening engages the individual to empathize with the speaker in terms of the emotions and opinions behind the words spoken.Shepherd (2007) notes that most of the marriage failures happen because of the lack of communication. We can attribute the lack of communication also with the lack of l istening skills in the relationship. Programs to improve communication between individuals in relationships, especially marital relationships, exist to help couples improve their relationship by increasing their communication skills. These programs prove to be helpful in terms of the self-disclosure that happens between individuals in relationships thus the relationship develops (Riesch, et al, 2003). Impact 4Relationship Quality Quality in this context means the satisfaction or value of the relationship which is translated as the openness of the persons involved in the relationship. The increase of value the individuals give to others the relationship improve the quality of their relationship. Studies confirm that relationships increase in value as the individuals in it improve their communication skills (Yalcin & Karahan, 2007). Self-disclosure is in effect one of the aspects that determine relationship quality, in this context- in the marital and romantic relationship.Dion (1998) , conducted a study showing that people who are secure in their relationships, practicing higher self-disclosure with other individuals, have higher relationship satisfaction as compared to those who are insecure or those who lack close communication, self-disclosure with their partners. This study tells us that self-disclosure does not only improve the relationship of the individuals per se, but also improves ones self-image. This can be seen when self-disclosure is practiced and individuals in the relationship affirms the other, thus improving ones self-image and improved communication in the relationship.Mie (2005) further asserted that self-disclosure is also defined as willingness of persons to confide or be open to other individuals. It can then be acknowledged that good self-disclosure in a relationship increases its value, and improves ones self-image in the relationship. And in relations this, listening skills are clearly needed to have good self-disclosure. As self-disclos ure deals with the openness of individuals in a relationship, listening skills are needed to have effective self-disclosure between individuals.Self-disclosure is thus, one of the most important factors affecting the quality of close relationships (Levinger & Rands, 1985). Impact 5 Relationships There are many aspects that may affect relationships. The relationships taken into consideration in this essay are the marital and romantic relationship. Studies show that relationship between parents or couples is one of the most important factors that improve the relationship of the family as a whole, thus the first influence that affects the family relationship is the parents (Riesch, et al, 2003).The relationship between the husband and wife will greatly determine the relationship established in the family. It is crucial for the parents to have a solid, healthy relationship, with the assumption that they have children in the family. Parrott (1995) stated that couples who listen intently at each others opinions and ideas will strengthen the relationship. The more couples practice listening, self-disclosure is easier therefore the relationship will grow (Jorgensen & Gaudy1980).In Parrott’s book, a couple cited tips on how to develop relationship with one another- this was to actively listen to each other. As mentioned above hearing and listening are different concepts. Listening must be practiced in relationships for it to develop. In the romantic relationship between a male and a female, the factors that affect their relationship are somehow similar to that of a marital relationship. The difference may be with the external factors of the relationship.Marital relationships involve external influences: such as conjugal responsibilities of their direct family, financial factors, and others. Zuroff & Duncan (1999) conducted a study about the effect of self-disclosure in college students in romantic relationships, and found out that they are largely influenced by their peers, and unpredictable emotions cause them to easily change their minds about relationships. Thus in this type of relationship, there is a greater need to apply listening skills, to improve the quality of their relationships. Impact 6The same principles of listening skills can be applied for both marital and adult man-woman romantic relationship, to directly improve their self-disclosure and their relationship as a whole. There are many benefits for a healthy relationship between couples and romantic relationships alike. A study even shows how good relationship affects the physiological well-being of the persons in the relationship (Yalcin & Karahan, 2007). Conclusion We have already established the importance of communication skills and its direct effect on relationship quality in marital and romantic relationships as have been mentioned in this essay.Evidences were given to prove the importance of these factors in relation to the marital and adult man-woman romantic relati onships. Based on the studies shown, communication skills, specifically listening skills, have a direct relationship with the quality of the marital and romantic relationship, where as the listening skills improve, so does the practice of self-disclosure in the said relationships. We can also conclude that increased self-disclosure in a relationship improves its value, therefore the relationship develops.Self-disclosure also has positive effects on the individual practicing it, where self-image can be improved compared to those who don’t practice it. Thus, self-disclosure affects not only the relationship at large, but also the individuals practicing it in the relationship. Lastly, relationships in the marital and romantic settings are different in external influences but similar in the need for effective listening skills that causes good self-disclosure in the relationship.

A Comparison of Love in Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest...

The Phenomenon of Love in Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest We know from the very opening scene of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliets love will end in tragedy. We may wonder why Miranda and Ferdinand in The Tempest do not end up with the same fate as Romeo and Juliet. Both couples are from opposing political families. Both couples are enraptured with their lovers. Why then does Romeo and Juliet end with their deaths and the Tempest end with Miranda and Ferdinands marriage plan? In this paper I will argue that according to Shakespeare reason needs to guide the souls of lovers to avoid tragedy and find bliss. I will do this by examining and comparing William Shakespeares plays; Romeo and Juliet†¦show more content†¦In both cases we can see the passions of love between the lovers clouding their reason. In both plays Shakespeare has a councillor, or mentor, for each couple. In Romeo and Juliet this mentor is Friar Laurence and in The Tempest it is Prospero. Because of the nature of the phenomenon of love, it seems Shakespeare feels that both young couples need this mentor as a source of reason and advice to help guide them through their passions. Both mentors warn the couples against letting passion guide their souls. Both mentors do seem genuinely concerned with the pairing and the good of the lovers and those connected to them. Most importantly the mentors try to act as reason for the lovers while the are caught up in desire. These mentors are one way that reason ought to guide the souls of lovers. Love ending in tragedy The play in which love ends in tragedy is Romeo and Juliet. After Romeo and Juliets first meeting at the dinner, we see how driven by passion Romeo is. After leaving the Capulets home, he is so taken with Juliet he must return. He climbs the Capulets wall and sneaks up to Juliets balcony. There the two lovers exchange their passionate declaration of love for each other. We only hear a slight hesitation from Juliet when she says [this contract tonight] is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden but she ignores this thoughtShow MoreRelatedPoe vs. Shakespeare Essay1556 Words   |  7 PagesThe Comparison of Edgar Allan Poe and William Shakespeare Brandi Greene University Composition and Communication I/COM155 May 9th, 2013 University of Phoenix The Comparison of Edgar Allan Poe and William Shakespeare Many have been inspired by the likes of Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare in literature but, there are similarities and differences between the two.
